Gary's Blog

Ok, so this is not really a Costa Rica Post, but it is a little insight into us. We have taken a picture of Lauren on the 13th of every month since she was born. As you might guess she was born on the 13th. We have never missed. Early on we almost missed a day when we came home well after dark, but Bonna, our best baby sitter ever, remembered, and took the photo with her phone - and this was well before the iPhone. We always took the picture with the same tree in the background because where we come from we have 4 seasons and we can see the tree change every month. You can also tell we are not cheating. Here in Costa Rica it seems all we can do is have green trees, then maybe green trees in the rain. Guess we will see.
It's big, it's bad, it's a MACK Truck. They're everywhere here. I love'em, kids love'em. We've got the Peterbilts & Kenworths on US highways, but you don't see many MACKs, at least not in California. MACKs are still built in Macungie, PA, but they are now owned by Volvo and have another assembly plant in Venezuela - so that may explain it. I'm going to assemble a little slide show of more MACKS over the next several weeks. You can come back and take a peak, just don't tell your wife - she won't understand, but you know they're cool.
PPK
Just off the square in Santa Cruz is PPK or Bread by the Kilo. Yeah, we know, you've got Frozen Yogurt up there in the USA by the ounce with lots of great things to put on top - M&M's, peanuts, Butterfingers, whipped cream....wait a minute! - down here it was 95 degrees and we were buying bread by the Kilo? That doesn't seem right! On the Photo Page #2 there are some more shots of the bread store and Santa Cruz. Now where is that Frozen Yogurt Store.
The new gas station just opened outside of Tamarindo. Now you don't have to drive 30Km just to get gas. Every gas station is full service here. They wash the windows, check the tires. Gas is about 767 colones per liter. About $5.80 a gallon.
Saturday afternoon is the big CDSG girls soccer fund raiser at Pangas on the beach. Burgers, hot dogs, then of course, the fire guy show - what would a school fund raiser be without the fire guy? Just like on the late night talk shows I now make a pitch to view "Lauren"s live report on, yes that's right "Lauren Reporting Live"
